Laval, June 15, 2012 – G4S Security guards were killed in an armed robbery attempt Friday morning on the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton. The workers were represented by Teamsters Local Union 362.
According to CBC, the workers were on their way to an ATM in a shopping mall connected to the university residence and library, where many students were still present.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families,” said Teamsters Canada president Robert Bouvier. “We will be working with the company so that the appropriate support is provided to our members and their families.”
The Teamsters Union will not make any additional comments until the police investigation is completed.
The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America.
