The 33 employees of HFS North America (a HAVI company) voted overwhelmingly in favor of Teamster representation. A lopsided victory of 25-7, employees at the Calgary distribution centre sent a clear message to HFS, a multinational supply chain logistics company, that they were not about to passively tolerate a new American management team which implemented oppressive working conditions, unnecessarily extended delivery hours and "had no clue about the labor laws in Alberta!" as one worker exclaimed.

HFS provides exclusive warehousing and delivery for Starbucks Coffee stores throughout Alberta.

"This resounding victory is particularly rewarding given the extremely anti-union tactics the employer utilized, including extensive captive audience interviews and "pizza meetings," stated David Froelich, Secretary-Treasurer of Local Union 987.

The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America.
