New Collective Agreement for the Coca-Cola workers in Alberta

05-14-2009

 EST
On April 13th, the 235 newest members of Teamsters Local Union 987 met and ratified their first collective agreement. It brought to a conclusion 13 months of bargaining followed by mediation in order to reach a settlement. This was the last non-union bottling plant under the Coca Cola banner in Canada.

These workers are based in Calgary, Alberta, and were organized in March 2008 by the Teamsters Union.

“I think it’s a good collective agreement and above all a huge victory for the workers,” said Pat Pope, organizer for Teamsters Local Union 987. “Our union is one of the most powerful in Canada, and I think Coca-Cola workers made the right choice back in March 2008.”

Coca-Cola workers are affiliated with the Teamsters Union in Quebec as well as in Alberta.

The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America.
